Top 4 dog walks in Kent and Sussex

As a Pet Photographer, I am always on the lookout for new woodland dog walks, especially woodlands in Kent and East Sussex. I thought I would share my 5 favourite local walks with you. If you know of any good woodland walks locally that are not in this blog, please get in contact with me via my website to let me know!

1. Park Woods Burwash East Sussex.

If you’re looking for a reliable countryside walk—especially in the winter—this is a great option. The postcode for parking is TN19 7DP, where you’ll find a small gravelled car park with space for around eight cars (depending on how creatively people park!). It’s my local go-to, and I’ve always managed to find a spot.

What makes this walk stand out is the terrain. The route is mostly along a gravel track, which means it stays relatively mud-free—ideal for dog walks during the wetter months. The path gently slopes downhill for the first three-quarters of a mile before becoming steeper as you reach the bottom of the woods.

At the bottom, you’ll find a beautiful pine forest to the left, complete with a charming wooden bridge crossing a small stream. It’s a lovely spot to pause and take in the surroundings. If you’re feeling up for it, you can continue up the hill into another section of the woods. Be warned—it’s a fairly steep climb—but definitely worth it. The pine forest alone is well worth exploring, even if you don’t make it all the way to the top.

If you prefer to keep things simple, sticking to the main gravel track from the car park to the bottom of the woods and back again makes for a walk of around 2.1 miles.

There are also plenty of other paths to explore throughout the woods if you’re in the mood to wander. Another nearby option is Leggett’s Wood car park, which is part of these woods, but with a separate car park, it is just over half a mile up the road from Park Wood car park. It offers a similar setup and a more scenic route, although it can get quite muddy and isn’t the best choice in wet weather.

2. Burgh woods East Sussex.

These woods are really great for a quiet walk with your Best Friend, although parking isn’t great. There is space for around 6 cars. This is located on Burgh Hill, postcode is TN19 7PD, just before Fysie Lane on the right-hand side coming from the A21, there is a path which leads into the woods at the car park.
